Galway Bay Golf Resort are delighted to announce that we will be hosting the 2017 Carey Cup, a tournament that will pitch Ireland’s best Amateurs v some of the USA’s best Amateurs from the MGA, including the low-Amateur at this year’s US Masters, Stewart Hagestad. The event has previously seen Padraig Harrington, Shane Lowry, Paul McGinley and Paul Dunne compete for Ireland, and this years young Irish team will feature stars of tomorrow, including 16 year old Protege and Irish Boys Champion Mark Power from Kilkenny.
Securing some of the World’s best Amateurssuch as Hagestad to play Galway Bay is quite the coup, and it’s great to see the club being recognised for what we have all known for years.
MD Ronan Killeen says:We are delighted to be hosting the 2017 Carey Cup. This match between the best amateurs from the GUI against The MGA of New York selection offers us an opportunity to showcase our wonderful course that is fast becoming one of the finest courses in Ireland, and we hope our members will be out in force to support this tournament, where we will all have a great chance to watch the course being played by potential future Major Winners”.
The event will feature an AM AM on Tuesday 16th, followed by 2 days of intense competition on 17th and 18th. We can’t wait for the event to start, and look forward to welcoming groups from the USA and Ireland to our wonderful course, which is getting the recognition it deserves, and will be a great test for both our lads and the guys from across the Water.
